IOLA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – This year you could’ve called the Iola Car Show a parade.
Because of the coronavirus, instead of having people gather together and walk among parked show cars, this year the cars drove by the crowds.
Even with the changes, it was a car lover’s paradise. Many of the drivers tell FOX 11 they had special bonds to their set of wheels.
“When I was a little kid I got rides in this car, I drew pictures of it when I was in school… I tried to buy it from my uncle for a number of years, my uncle is a bachelor and he left it for me in his will,” Joe Terry said of his 1968 Corvette Roadster.
“It was such a thrill to get it and I worked hard on it for about a year before it was even road worthy, it sat for so long, so when I get in it and drive I feel like a little kid again, it reminds me of my uncle and it’s just a lot of fun.”
Joshua Check might have had the largest vehicle on the lot.
“I’m actually turning it into a RV. I like to camp, off-road, and this is going to be my newest project to get me there,” Check said of his 1985 E1 Hurricane Firetruck.
Many of the visitors had been to the show year after year.
“Looks like a real good turnout, beautiful weather, lots of cars, I think it was a great alternative to have this instead of the full, obviously with the coronavirus,” John Charleston said.
So while the car show drew bumper to bumper traffic, it was a kind of traffic that people enjoyed.
