GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — It’s going to be an election unlike anything we’ve seen before.
That platitude is repeated every single election year without fail, but with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic looming over the August 11th Primary Election and the November 3rd General Election, it promises to be true.
Thousands of voters are expected to seek alternatives to in-person voting this year amid the COVID-19 Pandemic.
“In Wisconsin, people have the ability to request an absentee ballot, and you don’t need a reason,” says AARP Spokesperson Lisa Lamkins. “There’s also early voting…and local municipalities are getting creative. Some places are setting up curbside voting so people can drive by, some places will have ballot return boxes.”
Green Bay city officials said last week that over 12,000 absentee ballot requests have been made for the August 11th partisan primary. That’s more than were made for the 2016 Presidential Election.
Lamkins encourages exploring voting options if you’re concerned about in-person voting for the upcoming August Primary and November General Election.
“Right now, you can request your ballot for both the primary and the general election,” Lamkins said. You’ll be able to do that until August 6th.
The AARP has set up a website with information for Wisconsin voters at AARP.org/WI.
