ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Ashwaubenon village board just gave the greenlight to begin a new development along Mike McCarthy Way.
The lot on Mike McCarthy Way between Ashland Avenue and Holmgren Way has sat empty for a long time.
Village president Mary Kardoskee tells FOX 11…
“if you come right off Ashland Avenue, Mike McCarthy Way is really the drive into Lambeau Field and it’s very exciting.”
The Village of Ashwaubenon bought the land and started taking proposals for developments in 2019.
“We spent a lot of money on that land so it’s about time to get something going on that land that is waiting to be developed,” said trustee Gary Paul.
Ashwaubenon’s village board has reached an agreement to do that with an Iowa-based company. Phase one includes a five story building. The first floor will be 5,000 square feet of business space.
Community development director Aaron Schuette, “the retail market is so in flux due to COVID 19 and so on. They feel confident with more 5,000 square feet of commercial space but want to have some flexibility.”
The four remaining floors will have 85 residential units.
It’s a scaled-back version of the initial plan, which would’ve started with two buildings.
“During this COVID time it’s great to have development going forward here,” said Karodoskee.
Construction for phase one will begin on this site no later than November 2021 and expected to be completed by December 2022.
Developers have also requested funding help, in the form of tax increment financing of $1.75 million over 15 years.
Schuette said, “it’s hopeful this is the first step of a multi building project for Mike McCarthy way and really catalyze the area and kick off the redevelopment.”
Plans for the building will still need to be presented before the site committee, plan commission, and approved by the Village Board.
