SAWYER COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – A Sawyer County Circuit Court Judge has blocked Gov. Tony Evers from limiting bar and restaurant capacity as the coronavirus pandemic rages through the state.
The Tavern League is suing the Governor over new limits on bar and restaurant capacity. The lawsuit filed in Sawyer County seeks to immediately block the order limiting customers to 25% of the establishment’s capacity limit.
The Tavern League calls the order a “defacto closure.”
A court hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. this Monday, in which the state can give its reasons why a temporary restraining order should not be in place.
Plaintiffs in this case include the statewide Tavern League, the Sawyer County Tavern League and the Flambeau Forest Inn in the village of Winter.
The Democratic governor’s spokeswoman says the order “is consistent with the Wisconsin Supreme Court’s ruling earlier this year.”
The state on Tuesday reported 3,279 confirmed new coronavirus cases, breaking a record set just five days earlier.
