MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – New coronavirus rates in Wisconsin continued their decline on Wednesday, but the seven-day average of deaths hit an all-time high.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services reported 63 new deaths, pushing the seven-day average to 55.
However, new cases were again below record levels. DHS reported 5,469 new confirmed cases, or 31.7% of the 17,262 total tests completed. Seven-day averages fell to 5,372 cases and 28.3% test positivity.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 369,442 total confirmed cases, more than 2.1 million negative tests and 3,178 deaths. DHS considers 284,903 people to have recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus.
As of Wednesday morning, there were seven people at the state’s alternate care facility at State Fair Park in West Allis, two fewer than on Tuesday.
Hospital numbers are expected to be updated later Wednesday afternoon.
The latest numbers come one day before Thanksgiving, as health officials have been urging people not to gather indoors with people they don’t live with. Still, millions of Americans have left home for the holiday.
