GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Heads up to those going onto the ice of Green Bay this week: A Coast Guard cutter will be working on the northern half of the bay.
The Coast Guard says the Mackinaw will enter the bay at Rock Island Passage on Wednesday for several days of trials and testing.
The Mackinaw will be making efforts to stay away from ice that is connected to the shore. It will not enter any port and plans to spend each night out in the ice.
The Mackinaw will be working in the area of Chambers Island, staying north and east of Green Island and west of Washington Island.
Recreational users are advised to plan their activity carefully, be careful near the ice and stay away from the areas where the Mackinaw is working.
If you would like more information about exactly when the Mackinaw will be working in any given area, call Vessel Traffic Service in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, at (906) 635-3232.
