GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – From right here in Green Bay, all the way up to Door County, leaders in Greater Green Bay area tourism are optimistic for a better season.
Especially, with the help of federal aid on the way. Governor Evers announced he will direct $50-million to assist the state’s tourism industry.
While the logistics of working out just where that $50 million will go across the state for tourism, Destination Door County says it’s a big deal for the overall industry.
“I think any kind of assistance tourism destinations and specifically tourism businesses can get through federal grant dollars would be very much appreciated and help us and everyone in the industry rebound,” said Jon Jarosh, Destination Door County’s Director of Communications and Public Relations.
Looking back on the last round of federal aid received for Destination Door County: “We received some travel grant dollars and that helped us offset some of our revenue loss from lack of room tax,” said Jarosh.
He tells FOX 11 that was a big help.
“I know tourism businesses like ours in destination marketing and management definitely needed those dollars to help get through them last year.”
But, the industry will continue striving for recovery, Like here in Titletown, after a football season with fewer fans at games.
“With $50 million from the state businesses can hire their workers back and plan for a great summer here in Green Bay,” said Brenda Krainik with Greater Green Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau.
In the meantime, both are reminding travelers to follow safety guidelines while visiting the area.
Specifics are still being worked on for the programs and will be announced later. State officials say they need to make sure they follow federal rules for using the money.
