MADISON, WI (WTAQ) — Extreme fire risk led to over 150 wildfires breaking out in Wisconsin over the Easter Holiday weekend. Now, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers is declaring a State of Emergency in response to elevated wildfire conditions throughout the state.
Evers today signed Executive Order #110. The order is designed to support and direct all state agencies of the state of Wisconsin to assist as appropriate in wildfire prevention, response and recovery efforts.
The Wisconsin Army National Guard’s helicopters will also be utilized in support of firefighting efforts and support.
The Brown County Fire Chiefs Association has placed the county under a burning ban. Brown County’s burning ban is in place until further notice.
“We don’t have as much dense forest area,” Brown County Emergency Management Director Lauri Maki told WTAQ. “That’s not to say a campfire that is not paid attention to or a fire in the backyard would not cause multiple problems.”
There haven’t been any serious fires locally.
The DNR placed every county in the state in the “very high” fire danger category on Sunday.
