APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – Appleton is seeking resident input on the design of a park, dedicated to a firefighter who died in the line of duty.
The city is set to hold a public meeting for Lundgaard Park on Wednesday, July 28 at Fire Station #6 on N. Lightning Dr. from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Appleton and Midwest design and engineering firm, I&S Group, Inc., will ask residents to rank various playground amenities and other components such as water features and winter activities.
Kids will be encouraged to draw their ideas and share playground preferences. Staff will engage attendees in conversations to gather more insights that will shape the vision of Lundgaard Park.
In May of 2020, the park was dedicated to Mitch Lundgaard, a 14-year veteran of the Appleton Fire Department who was shot and killed while responding to a medical call at the Valley Transit Center in May of 2019.
The park is located at the intersection of Lightning Dr. and Ashbury Dr. in north Appleton.
Master planning of the park will be completed by the end of the year, with fundraising efforts to begin shortly thereafter.
