GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Governor Tony Evers is continuing to urge Wisconsinites to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
He was asked about the status of the pandemic in the state during a stop at Lambeau Field on Tuesday. He argues there’s still a lot of time on the clock.
“I’m very proud of the response Wisconsin has had up until this time around getting shots in arms,” Evers said. “We have to move much, much further, much faster, if we want to make sure that we continue to be safe. So we monitor this every single day, every minute of the day.”
Over 3 million Wisconsinites – or about 51.6% – have received at least one dose. 49.1% have completed their series. But Evers says that’s not enough.
“You just can’t sit back and say, ‘ Well, that’s tough luck that Joe Blow died because of COVID-19 because he didn’t get the vaccine. We all have to take responsibility for this and make sure we get shots in people’s arms,” Evers said.
He credited large vaccination sites early-on for making a major impact in distributing the vaccine.
“The Packers have been very, very important in the vaccination world. They had a huge effort right here in the Atrium for several months and vaccinated thousands and thousands of people,” Evers said.
