MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A man who smuggled Fentanyl into the Manitowoc County Jail that another inmate later overdosed and died from was convicted Tuesday.
Jerid Hanson, 33, pleaded guilty to first-degree reckless homicide, while six other charges were dismissed. Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 27.
Hanson hid heroin laced with Fentanyl in his body before being taking to jail in September, 2020. Officials found a vial during a search and scan, but Hanson says they missed another chunk. Hanson admitted to giving some of the drugs to Justin Hall because Hall “owed him from the streets.” Hall later died, according to the criminal complaint.
