CHILTON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — We’re learning more about the 1997 incident in which a De Pere man and current Green Bay High School Teacher allegedly sexually assaulted his then-girlfriend’s teenage son, according to a complaint filed Tuesday.
Gregory Sawyer, who has been placed on leave from his position as a Green Bay high school teacher, was charged with one count of sexual assault of a child under the age of 16. The accusations do not involve any students.
An initial appearance was scheduled for Tuesday in Calumet County court.
According to the complaint, the now-37-year-old man talked with police earlier this year about the incidents the fall of 1997. The victim detailed several encounters between the two.
Sawyer admitted to several of the incidents, although he offered different version of some events. Prosecutors say the victim’s mother was present for at least one of the encounters. No charges have been filed against her.
While many types of crimes have statutes of limitations within charges must be filed, in Wisconsin, charges for incidents when the minor was under age 16 can be filed until the victim reaches age 45.
