GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Many families are already preparing for Halloween.
“Definitely trick or treating, definitely trick or treating in Oconto Falls,” said Amanda Fisher, who came with her son from Oconto Falls to Green Bay to find the perfect Halloween costume.
“Well, last year, they really didn’t do trick or treating in Oconto Falls. A few people did it, I know, but the town itself had canceled it, so it will be fun to get the kids back out there,” said Fisher.
Oconto County Health Officer Debra Konitzer tells FOX 11 COVID-19 cases are still high there.
“However, the recommendations have changed from last year. We are no longer saying we should not have trick-or-treating, “said Konitzer.
Bellin Health Family Physician Dr. Robert Mead tells FOX 11 that although COVID-19 is still very prevalent, we know more about the virus, and more people are vaccinated now compared to last year.
“I think certainly going outside with your family, walking around the neighborhood, going around to houses, the usual routine for trick-or-treaters, I think is a good thing, and it’s going to be relatively safe.”
Mead says the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention also gives a green light for children to trick-or-treat, but suggests wearing masks indoors and traveling in small groups.
“Having individually wrapped treats for the kids would be good.”
“Trying to keep that physical distance, so if a group is up at a doorstep, wait by the sidewalk and wait for that group to be done,” said Konitzer.
Fisher says although her and her family are excited to trick-or-treat, they are going to do their best to do it safely.
She adds the best treat from Halloween this year won’t be the bags full of candy.
“More togetherness, I feel like finally we’re able to see each other again and come together and do these kinds of things.”
