FOX CROSSING, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Kids in Fox Crossing got dressed up Tuesday and went trick or treating just before Halloween. The parks and recreation department hosted its annual trick-or-treat trail event.
Thomas the Tank Engine, Olaf and Elsa, and hundreds of other kids came dressed up ready to get a head start on their trick-or-treating this year at Fritsch Park.
“This is just kind of a prep we do for the real trick-or-treat on Halloween night,” said David Schiller of Appleton.
The event lets families take a walk down the trails of the park, trick-or-treating from local businesses and police and fire departments.
“I just like giving back to the community. I have five kids, so it’s really nice to support everyone, and it’s just a nice event,” said Rocky Schafer with the Century 21 Ace Realtor group.
”We like to say this is a safe atmosphere for kids to go trick and treating, you know, if they don’t want to go in the streets on Halloween, said Amanda Geiser, director of parks and recreation for Fox Crossing.
While this year over 600 kids get to walk the trail trick-or-treating, last year’s event was limited to just a drive-thru.
“It’s well organized. We feel they’ve done a good job planning it to be pandemic-friendly and we comfortable with it,” said Tim Neuman of Fox Crossing.
Giving kids a warm up before their first trick-or-treating on Halloween, which is delayed because of the pandemic.
Kids and families ended their trick-or-treating with hot chocolate, smores and a craft in the park pavilion.
