OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) – A 34-year-old Omro man is in custody after running from police in Oshkosh early Wednesday morning.
The man was wanted in relation to a weapons complaint in the City of Omro, where a vehicle was located with several gun shots through the windshield on Tuesday night.
Just after 12:30 a.m., an Oshkosh Police officer found the suspect in a vehicle along the 300 block of North Westhaven Drive. As the officer attempted to
make contact with him, the suspect exited the vehicle and started to run.
A perimeter was immediately set up, and Officers from the Oshkosh Police Department, Officers from Omro Police Department, and Deputies from the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office assisted in searching for this suspect. Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office deployed their K9 and Omro Police Department utilized their drone.
Detectives eventually determined around 9:00 a.m. that the man was inside of a home along the 1100 block of Cumberland Trail. Police evacuated some nearby residents and had others shelter in place as the SWAT team and Crisis Negotiation team were called in.
The man ultimately walked out of the home and was taken into custody for Resisting, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Misdemeanor Bail Jumping. There may be additional charges from the Omro Police Department.
No one was injured.
