GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The American Red Cross is making a desperate plea for blood donations, saying that their blood supply has hit ‘historically low’ levels.
Justin Kern with the Red Cross says there are a few reasons for it.
“I think the holidays and weather, and a lot of the schools and businesses haven’t been able to open back up in the same way,” Kern told WTAQ. “And then, COVID-19 of course.”
It’s an issue, Kern says, primarily of turnout–people who used to donate aren’t doing so quite as much.
“Turnout has been better here in our state,” said Kern. “But as a national supplier it’s important to make sure that ahead of the winter storms and whatever else COVID throws at us, that we get people to make appointments.”
Donors are urged to schedule an appointment by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS.
