GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – As bikes race down the Fox River Trail, it brings a new beginning.
Spring is here in Northeast Wisconsin.
Rita Fagerstrom is happily surprised with temperatures in the high 50s.
“It’s gorgeous,” said Fagerstrom. “There’s not a breeze.”
This isn’t her first walk on the trail this year, though. She’s been taking them all winter.
“It got pretty cold. As long as I got my four or five layers on I was pretty warm. The wind was just biting though.”
The Fox River State Recreational Trail wasn’t the only one full of people. The trail at Baird Creek was a popular site on Sunday too.
Among those walking the trail – Peter Candela.
“In the winter it’s so cold and come March it’s nice. Everybody loves to be outside.”
After a bitterly cold winter, Sunday’s weather was just what he needed.
“It’s been beautiful the past couple of days. I noticed that everyone is outside walking around. It’s rare for 56 in March, it’s nice.”
Candela says the creek is usually still frozen this time of year.
With it flowing strong, he has hope for what’s ahead.
“I like that Summer is coming quicker because winter, I’m not a big fan of it,” said Candela. “I like hot weather, I’d rather have it 90.”
Fagerstrom hoping too that the sun and warm weather is here to stay.
“To have the sun on your face and just to feel the warmth, it’s beautiful out.”
The nice conditions will hit a speed bump though, as unsettled weather moves into the area this week.
