ASHWAUBENON -vThe Green Bay Rockers fell to the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders 15-9 Wednesday night at Capital Credit Union Park after a six-run top of the ninth inning by the Dock Spiders.
Despite having a 9-7 lead after the sixth, the Dock Spiders scored the last eight runs of the game to improve to 3-0 on the season, while the Rockers drop to 1-2 on the season.
The Dock Spiders wasted no time at the plate as an RBI single by Kyle McDonald gave the Dock Spiders an early 1-0 lead after the top of the first.
The Rockers did not respond in the bottom of the first, but a solid second inning by Braden Gluth kept the game locked at 1-0 heading into the bottom of the second.
The Rockers offense took their first home lead of the season off RBI singles by Griffin Selby and David Melfi, followed by an RBI double by Glenn Miller as Green Bay led 3-1 after two innings of play.
That momentum was short-lived however as the Dock Spiders sent 10 batters to the plate in the top of the third, scoring five runs in the top of the third to take a 6-3 lead heading into the bottom half of the frame.
Courtesy of an RBI groundout by Matt Scannell and an RBI sacrifice fly by Melfi, the Rockers cut the lead to one in the bottom of the third, trailing 6-5 after three innings.
Following a scoreless fourth inning on both sides, the Dock Spiders added one more in the fifth, leading 7-5 after five innings as Green Bay stranded two runners on base in that frame.
After a scoreless top of the sixth, the Rockers retook the lead in grand style after a grand slam by Matt Scannell on a 3-2 pitch. The towering home run over the right field wall gave the Rockers a 9-7 lead after six innings.
The Dock Spiders however responded once more as a Nick Mitchell two-run home run knotted the score back up at nine apiece through seven innings.
In the eighth, Calvin Hunt struck out the side and stranded two runners in the process after giving up a single and walk moments prior, keeping the score deadlocked at 9-9.
However, the game would go to the ninth all tied up at nine after the Dock Spiders struck out the side to keep the game squared at 9-9.
In the top of the ninth, the Dock Spiders scored six runs after several walks and RBI singles as the Dock Spiders led 15-9 heading into the bottom of the ninth.
Despite a leadoff single by Griffin Selby in the bottom of the ninth, the Rockers last three batters were retired as the Dock Spiders earned the road victory to stay undefeated at 3-0.
The Rockers take on Fond du Lac once again, this time on the road to conclude the opening two game series with the Dock Spiders. First pitch is set for 11:35 a.m. from Herr Baker Field.
