GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — District officials in Green Bay say the upcoming school year is a “consequential” one.
The district is facing a $92.6 million referendum in November alongside a search for a new superintendent and the development of their 10 year plan, and Spokesperson Lori Blakeslee says there are other challenges as well.
“We’re looking very good as far as teachers in classrooms and having enough substitutes,” Blakeslee said. “But one thing we continue to try to get the word out on is that we’re still hiring many of our support positions.”
The Wisconsin Education Career Access Network’s website shows 96 full- and part-time open support staff positions for Green Bay Schools. You can apply for a position on the district’s website.
The past two years were defined by the COVID-19 pandemic, but classrooms will look more familiar this year.
“Schools should pretty much feel back to pre-COVID. We’re on a pre-COVID calendar, we have field trips again, all of our various activities,” Blakeslee said. “Classrooms will pretty much feel the way they did before.”
The school year starts September 1st for 4K, K-5, 6th, & 9th grade as well as K-8 at Aldo, da Vinci and Red Smith. There will be asynchronous instruction for 7th, 8th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. All students will report September 2nd.
