GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Gas prices are continuing to drop throughout Wisconsin and the United States.
Although they’re still way above levels a year ago, we are seeing some consistent relief that’s likely to continue. Molly Hart with AAA says people are simply driving a lot less right now.
“The demand is below what it was a year ago, and we’re approaching the end of the summer travel season,” Hart told WTAQ. “We did a survey that showed people are driving less often, not as far, and even if they’re taking vacations, they’re going shorter distances.”
Also providing some hope is the switch to winter blend fuel next month. That’s cheaper to produce at refineries.
Despite the lower demand, Hart says prices haven’t dropped faster because of the ongoing war in Ukraine and concerns around the energy supply in Europe.
Average gas price in Wisconsin is standing at $3.61 a gallon, 31 cents lower than a month ago but 64 cents higher than a year ago.
