GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WRN) – A consumer group is concerned that two Wisconsin utilities are seeking excessive rate hikes. Tom Content, executive director of the Wisconsin Citizens Utility Board, said the increases sought by Wisconsin Public Service and WE Energies will hit residential customers
“So we’re fighting both of these. But this is really a big chance at this time of rising energy costs for people to really weigh and talk to the Public Service Commission about the impact that these increases could have on their pocketbook and their family household budgets.”
The utilities are proposing to increase base residential electric rates 13% for We Energies customers and 14% for WPS customers. Gas rates would increase between 8.7% and 13.1% depending on the provider.
The Public Service Commission is holding hearings on the rate increases. The first is today/Tuesday at the Neville Public Museum in Green Bay at 2:00pm and again at 6:00pm. The second is Thursday at the Washington Park Senior Center in Milwaukee.
Also this week, the Public Service Commission is still accepting online comments on the PSC website.
