WAUTOMA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A former music teacher at Wautoma High School was charged with having sexual contact with a female student on multiple occasions.
Joshua Barker, 29, made an initial appearance Monday on two counts of sexual assault of a student by a staff member. A $5 thousand cash bond was set, and he returns to court Dec. 27 for a balance of initial appearance, court records show.
As conditions of bond, he was ordered to not have contact with the Wautoma School District or any of its facilities, cannot work in an educational setting unless the students are older than 18, and may not have contact with any children under 18, other than his own.
According the criminal complaint, the victim told police Barker he performed disciplinary acts on her. She later had sexual contact with Barker in a music room at the school. The incidents started in January, with the sexual contact in May and June.
Barker also talked explicitly about sex in the classroom, another student and teacher told police.
The principal told police “the defendant had been investigated for verbal type comments with students and had decided that given the investigation it was uncomfortable for him to return to the school,” the complaint states.
Barker is not currently listed on the district’s website listing of staff members.
