SHEBOYGAN, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Sheboygan business is brewing up support to reopening the city’s children’s museum after it was damaged by water and ice.
Above and Beyond Children’s Museum closed indefinitely on Christmas after water pipes burst and the sprinkler system damaged items on all four floors of the museum.
The incident caused about $150,000 worth of damage.
Despite insurance covering the cost of repairs, the museum is seeking donations to cover lost revenue for admissions. Volunteers will also be needed to help move furniture, exhibits and supplies once the building and spaces are fully repaired.
To help with the museum’s reopening efforts, 3 Sheeps Brewing Co. will host a fundraiser on Sunday, Jan. 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in its taproom. The event will feature ABCM-hosted interactive activities, local vendors, a raffle and volunteer information. The brewery will donate $1 for each pint of 3 Sheeps Pilsner sold during the event.
“Above & Beyond Children’s Museum is a huge part of our community and we are trying to do our part to get them back up and running,” said Grant Pauly, 3 Sheeps Brewing Co. founder and head brewmaster. “My family has been a member for years and we know firsthand how important the space is to the children and families of our community.”
An reopening date for the museum has not yet been set but staff are hoping for sometime in February.
