GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Green Bay Film Festival is making some changes as it returns to the city this year.
For its 13th anniversary, the festival is completely changing its format to spread the cinematic fun throughout the year.
Rather than having a single-day event, the festival will now feature curated nights from now through October.
The festival will kick off this Saturday with the Romantic Adventure event.
In April, the films will be centered around Playing with Sound; in June, With Pride; in August, Wisconsin’s Own; and then Good Ole Fashion Scares in October.
Tarlton Theatre owner Tarl Knight says the pre-show entertainment, food and cocktails will all be reflective of the theme for each night as well.
The festival features films across genres by independent filmmakers from across the world.
“We give [an] avenue for those independent, you know, filmmakers because most of their stuff might not even, you know, get seen on a bigger screen so we give them the opportunity for that,” explained Festival Director Caitlin Schuchart.
Schuchart provided a bit of a sneak peek into a film that will be featured at the Wisconsin’s Own event in August.
She explains that a Wisconsin filmmaker has centered their project around the Monfils murder — a killing that took place in the ’90s at a Green Bay paper mill.
Schuchart says one of the men who was imprisoned for the murder, his lawyer and a journalist will be featured on a panel for that event as well.
