WAUPACA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A wildlife group is asking the public to let a wounded bald eagle last spotted in Waupaca be after it was struck by an arrow.
Raptor Education Group, Inc. says the eagle was able to remove the arrow from its abdomen on its own and while there was significant bleeding, it appeared to stop before it flew away.
Officials say the cold temperatures will be helpful to its injury and the eagle is showing interest in its survival with a mate by its side.
The group is asking people to let the eagle hunker down in peace during the winter storm.
In a Facebook post, the group wrote:
“Hiding during this time is a natural behavior. Knowing eagles as I do, I am certain that if survival is possible, it is doing just that. We are on alert for the eagle and are here to help her no matter when. We are asking that during the snow event, no physical searches of the wooded areas take place on foot, ATV or snowmobiles. We do not want to disturb the eagle nor any other wildlife as all are in survival mode during the storm.”
If anyone has information on the eagle’s injury, or a photo of the eagle, please call Raptor Education Group, Inc. at 715-623-4015. If anyone has information on the perpetrator of the shooting, contact your local law enforcement agency.
