FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Two Wisconsin police officers who died while on duty were honored with a memorial service in Fond du Lac.
Marian University held the service Sunday night.
Officer Peter Jerving of the Milwaukee Police Department was killed in the line of duty in February and Officer Joseph Kurer of the Fond du Lac Police Department died from COVID-19 complications in 2021, after being infected while on duty.
Both were alumni of Marian University.
Kurer’s parents say they appreciate the love and support from the community.
“The mass was a beautiful tribute to the gift of our faith, and how it was a moving and hopeful message that one day we will be rejoined together with our loved ones with the gift of our faith, Bill Kuerer said.
“We are blessed to have the support of so many people. And we never want to forget the sacrifices that they make. Because we all benefit from their service. And the gifts they share with other people,” Mary Kurer said.
The service also recognized the first responders who continue to put themselves in harm’s way.
