HOBART, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Northeast Wisconsin community is getting a new fire station to meet its growing needs.
The village of Hobart broke ground on its new $4.8 million Fire Department on S. Pine Tree Road Monday.
The new station will replace the current, outdated facility.
Village administrator, Aaron Kramer, says Hobart’s needs are vastly different than when the old station was constructed in the 1960’s.
“As far as response, a lot of this is now we’re in the 21st century, you have to have the IT in place. This structure will have the IT for future fire department needs. It will have room to expand. We’re building this facility not just for 2023 but for 33, 43 and all the way out to the second half of the century and there’s room on this site to expand if the needs of the community continues to grow,” Kramer said.
The new 18,200 square-foot facility will include space for a new ambulance and extra meeting spaces. It will also become a polling place for residents in the southern half of the village. Kramer adds that if anything were to happen to the village hall, they could easily relocate operations to the new fire station.
“Yes today is a fire station groundbreaking but I call it more a public safety facility when you look at the broad scope of the entire project,” he said.
The fire station is expected to open sometime this fall.
