CAMERON, WI (WLUK) — Family, friends, and the law enforcement community gathered in western Wisconsin Saturday afternoon to pay their respects to two officers killed in a shootout last week.
Emily Briendenbach, 32, and Hunter Scheel, 23, were killed after serving a warrant during a traffic stop.
The funeral service took place at Cameron High School and a procession followed.
Breidenbach was a five-year veteran of the Chetek Police Department.
Scheel was a year into his career, serving the Village of Cameron.
The service first honored Scheel and then Breidenbach.
Chetek’s police chief, Ron Amborzaitis, shared a message he received from a friend.
“Today we honor our sister,” said Amborzaitis. “We know it hurts and we know it hurts deep. Emily would want us to stay strong and honor her by completing our mission. Quit is not in the vocabulary anymore today.”
In the shootout, the 50-year-old suspect, Glenn Perry, also died.
