NEW DENMARK, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Temperatures in the thirties, with rain on top of it, is not what many people hoped for heading into May.
But some still enjoyed their Sunday outside.
Slow pitch softball players playing at Circle Tap in New Denmark say they make the most out of spring weather in Wisconsin.
“Absolutely you’ve got to make the most of it, you can’t just sit inside all day you’ve got to go out and try to do something fun in Wisconsin this time of year…You can’t get those days back,” says Greg Gottheardt.
Others who say they had fun, admit they would prefer warmer temperatures.
“I personally don’t like cold weather but I mean if you’re outside moving it’s a lot better than being inside and cooped up, fresh air is always good for everyone,” says Kailyn Petitjean.
But playing in the rain does pose some challenges.
“Everyone was slipping and falling and we’re all kind of old, but no one got hurt though so that’s good,” says Michelle Bauprey.
And also requires more clothing.
“I have about four layers of sweatshirts on right now and three pairs of pants so it’s fine,” says Kristi Knipp.
Many of the players say they assumed their games would be canceled for Sunday due to the rainy weather.
“Like two people messaged in our group chat and were like ‘are they games canceled?’ And we were like, ‘no, we’re going to play,’” says Bauprey.
“We were thinking it might get canceled but at the same time we’re just ready, mainly it’s just dressing for the weather,” says Gottheardt.
Aside from softball, players say they hope it warms up soon so they can do other things outside as well.
“Bonfires and running, volleyball outside,” says Knipp.
“Volleyball outside, going to the beach,” says Bauprey.
Everyone agreed that they are grateful this rain is not snow.
