MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A substance abuse treatment center in Manitowoc is expanding to meet growing demand.
CORE Treatment Services, Inc. unveiled its new facility on Wednesday. The new location adds 20 residential beds and allows CORE to start providing gender-specific care, according to CORE Co-Executive Director Chris Gilbert.
The new facility will be for men and the first facility, currently a 16-bed co-ed treatment facility, will be for women.
Gilbert says CORE currently has 50 people on its waitlist, and he expects the need to continue to grow.

Wednesday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony wasn’t just about the new building, either; it also provided CORE staff with the opportunity to catch up with former clients.
“Incredible to see our community come out, being able to see some of the former clients that have gone through CORE and whose lives have been transformed and are productive members of society now,” said Gilbert. “Being able to see them come and knowing that’s really what this is about is helping people get their lives back and start to take steps forward in becoming productive members of our community.”
In just over three years since opening its first facility, CORE has become a preferred provider for several counties throughout Wisconsin with clients coming from all over the state.
Combined with its behavioral health clinic for outpatient treatment, CORE served over 800 clients last year.
