FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The woman killed in a shooting Sunday has been identified.
Fond du Lac police say Tatyanna PM Zech, 20, died in the shooting.
Zech had just moved to Fond du Lac from Chicago two weeks ago to start a new life away from the big city.
“She was living with me, she was here with me at my house to be peaceful, try to escape drama and that type of crap,” said Ciera Steward, Zech’s godmother.
But yet her life ended, at age 20, in a violent act.
“Right now I’m super numb and haven’t had any sleep,” said Steward.
The shooting took place just before 7 p.m. in a parking lot of Maplewood Commons, an apartment complex near Martin Avenue and E. Pioneer Road.
Steward has lived at the Maplewood Commons for almost a year.
She says she was in her apartment Sunday evening with Zech, getting ready for a barbecue.
“I was in my apartment cooking and they went to take the trash out,” said Steward.
Next thing she heard were gunshots.
“I came out, she was laying here,” said Steward. “She was laying there bleeding out for her life.”
Two other people were shot. An 18-year-old man was hospitalized, where his condition was upgraded Monday to critical but stable condition. A 49-year-old man’s condition was stable, police said.
Two people are being sought in the shooting, Antonio K. Johnston, 17, and Parise E. Larry Jr., 14.
“I’ve seen them before plenty of times but as far as knowing them, I don’t know them,” said Steward.
“Now I gotta bury my daughter, my granddaughter,” said Ricky Zech, Tatyanna’s grandfather.
He says his family is broken.
“And we don’t know what to do because we don’t got the kind of money,” said Zech.
The Fond du Lac school district says both suspects are students in the district. Counselors have been made available in each district building, and teachers have been asked to be flexible on extending deadlines and due dates for student assignments.
School officials say they do not believe there is any threat to the buildings.
“I don’t know what else to say, you know, because this never should’ve happened, and we don’t bury kids, that’s wrong,” said Zech.
