DE PERE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A person from De Pere had their checking account information used to create fraudulent checks that were used at stores in western Wisconsin, police believe.
Tomah police say on April 15 and 16, someone wrote out checks that had the De Pere victim’s information at Walmarts in Tomah and Onalaska. The victim still had original unwritten checks with the same number in their checkbook in De Pere.
Since a check the victim sent in the mail to pay a bill had not cleared, police suspect the fraudster stole that check and then used the information to forge more checks.
Tomah police released surveillance images of the suspect and their vehicle.
