OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wisconsin, is raising concerns about a military vehicle contract awarded to an Indiana company.
Earlier this year, the military awarded AM General a five-year, $8.66 billion contract to produce Joint Light Tactical Vehicles for the Army. The vehicles had been produced by Oshkosh Defense since the first major contract was awarded in 2015.
Baldwin’s letter to Army leaders raises concerns about AM General’s “very high credit risk” and its ability to start production of JLTVs.
Baldwin notes that AM General’s credit has been downgraded since it was bought by KPS Capital Partners in 2020.
“By increasing the chances of delayed delivery or a default, the award appears to pose a risk to the Tactical Wheeled Vehicle industrial base and the fighting men and women who depend on it,” she wrote.
