GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity has unveiled their upcoming development project that’s anticipated to serve up to 92 people in Brown County.
Since the organizations founding in 1987, they’ve built 131 homes in Brown County, impacting 214 adults and 384 children. Now, they’re undertaking their largest development plan in the organization’s 35 years.
Habitat Homestead will consist of two; three-unit townhomes and eight single family homes on a 2.66 acre lot just off of Manitowoc Road on the east side of Green Bay. Units will range from 2-5 bedrooms. There will also be two ADA-compliant options.
The project is estimated to cost about $4 million. The City of Green Bay is investing $900 thousand in the project. Property taxes from the development is estimated to generate over $50 thousand each year.
The homeowners will be required to give 3,500 – 7,000 hours to help build their home alongside the homes of their future neighbors. Jessica Diederich, CEO of Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity, says the project is all about fostering community.
“To have so many of these habitat homeowners and their children all in one lot together; their houses will be facing each other, these kids get to grow up together, and these families will support each other,” said Diederich.
Construction will begin in late summer/early fall, and will take about 18-24 months to build. Construction of the townhomes will begin first, then construction of the single-family homes will follow.
