FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A 7-year-old boy who was hospitalized after being hit by a vehicle while crossing the street has died, according to the boy’s uncle.
The Fond du Lac Police Department says the incident happened around 6:20 p.m. on Friday on the 500 block of E. Pioneer Road.
According to a GoFundMe page setup by the boy’s uncle, David Custance was struck when he darted into the road while playing with his sisters. He suffered a traumatic head injury, broken ribs, punctured lung, broken pelvis, broken femur and a shattered ankle, according to the uncle.
A 53-year-old Fond du Lac resident was operating the vehicle, according to police. The driver suffered no injuries.
The 7-year-old was flown to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
No further information has been released at this time.
The Wisconsin State Patrol assisted FDLPD by conducting an accident reconstruction at the scene. The Fond du Lac Police Department was also assisted by the City of Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue and Fond du lac County Sherriff’s Office.
