GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The City of Green Bay has been seeing an uptick in vehicle thefts, according to the Green Bay Police Department.
“We had a problem with this earlier in the spring, then we made a number of arrests and saw those numbers go down,” said Green Bay Police Chief Chris Davis. “Since April, we’ve been tracking about 20 cases of auto thefts.”
Most of the arrests as a result of these crimes have been of juveniles ages 14-17. Chief Davis noted that social media trends continue to encourage this behavior among teenagers across the United States.
Kia and Hyundai vehicles are particularly vulnerable to theft.
“If you can get a steering wheel lock, it just makes it that much harder for somebody to steal,” said Chief Davis.
Make sure your vehicle is always locked and keep it in a secured garage if you can.
Additionally, catalytic converter thefts continue to be an issue in Green Bay.
