MADISON, WI (WTAQ-METRO) – Wisconsin’s new state budget is halfway to Governor Evers desk.
The State Senate last night approved the new, two-year spending plan that comes with a 99 billion-dollar price tag.
The budget spends more on schools, roads, and first responders. The budget includes a four billion-dollar tax cut, as well as 32 million-dollars in cuts to diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts at the University of Wisconsin.
Governor Evers had said he would veto the budget if lawmakers included those cuts, but he softened on that stance over the weekend because Republicans are giving the university the option to spend that 32-million somewhere else.
Two Republicans joined every Senate Democrat in voting against the budget. The Republicans said the budget spends too much money.
The republican controlled State Assembly will vote on the budget today.
