KAUKAUNA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) –Kaukauna Police say a suspect was taken into custody after a more than five-hour standoff Tuesday afternoon.
It happened at the Fox Shores Apartments, formerly known as the River Ridge Apartments, near the Fox River and Kaukauna Police Department.
Police say it started as they were following up on a possible domestic incident.
“Oh my gosh there were cops everywhere, police cars all the way down and everything,” said Karla Milspaugh, a resident of the apartments. “A police officer said I should go lock myself in the apartment until this is resolved.”
Police say they arrived at the apartments at 10:30 a.m. They say a suspect was making threatening comments and refusing to come out of the apartment.
After several hours of communication, police say the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
At one point, the SWAT team did walk two people to squad cars but police only referred to one suspect in a message about what happened.
Residents say they are happy things ended the way they did.
“It was scary, but I was in a locked apartment and was down a way, so I just went on doing my crafts and I kept an eye out the window,” said Milspaugh. “Thank God there were no shots fired, nobody got hurt.”
While residents and the public were told to stay away from here most of the day, the incident wrapped up at 4 p.m. and people were allowed back into the apartments shortly after.
