TOWNSHIP OF WAUPUN, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A plane on the way to EAA in Oshkosh crashed just before 8 p.m. Saturday.
The crash happened in the area of HWY 49 and Hemp Rd.
The pilot of the plane was able to call dispatch for an updated location. It was difficult for crews to rescue the two men on board because of a large marsh area.
The 76-year-old pilot and 71-year-old co-pilot, both from Texas, were eventually rescued.
They were flying a single-engine ERCO Ercoupe. The plane had last left Cedar Rapids two hours before the crash.
The pilot says he was 10 minutes away from his destination when the engine suddenly lost power forcing him to make an emergency landing.
The pilot was treated for a possible shoulder injury.
The crash remains under investigation.
