HOWARD, WI (WTAQ) — Beginning Tuesday, the Howard Commons Activity Complex will open to the community for its ‘soft opening.’
The complex will feature an open-air pavilion for community events, an indoor activity center with rental spaces for events, a roller rink, an outdoor amphitheater, Howard Biergarten, and a splash pad.
Throughout the month of August, staff will be training in their new roles and getting to know the facility.
During Tuesday’s soft opening, roller skating will run from noon – 9 p.m., and the Biergarten will be open from 4 – 9 p.m. The splash pad, which will be open 7 days a week, will be open from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Planning and coordination for the complex goes back as far as 10 years.
“The village has pursued this vision with a number of different architects. However, they were not pleased with the initial renderings provided,” said Melissa Martinson, director of the Howard Commons Activity Complex. “Our facility is modeled after one in Valparaiso, Indiana, but on a much larger scale with additional amenities.”
Construction for the facility officially began last November.
A grand opening for the complex will be held over labor day weekend; with Sunday, September 3 being the highlight when the village hosts a community fireworks show.
The activity center is located at 2750 Howard Commons in the village of Howard.
