GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — HSHS and Prevea are experiencing a systemwide outage that’s affecting multiple operations at its hospitals and clinics.
The healthcare provider says its phone system access is sporadic and MyChart/MyPrevea communication is unavailable.
While officials work to restore its internet service, hospital and clinic staff will continue to provide care to patients.
They say if you have a scheduled appointment, you should still go to it.
“We acknowledge this outage is causing inconvenience for some patients and that services may take longer to schedule or receive. We are grateful to our caregivers, colleagues and physicians, who are doing everything possible to ensure we can continue to serve our community while we work diligently to resolve the outages,” Prevea Health wrote in a statement.
Officials say they will provide updates on the situation as they become available.
One patient said she needed to get in to see a provider for an emergent situation Monday morning. After calling multiple times and having no luck with Prevea’s online patient portal, she drove to a clinic where she was able to be seen.
Another patient said her appointment was not impacted by the outage, but her provider had to take written notes instead of entering her information into the computer system, as they had done in the past.
While Prevea and HSHS haven’t publicly identified the root problem, cyber security expert, Curt Esser, said it could be anything from just a local internet outage to a hacking or ransomware situation. According to Esser, “The fact that it affects not just, it’s all campuses, all locations tends to probably say that it’s not an area wide internet service provider compromise. More than likely it probably has, somebody may have breached their system and they are working on that now.”
The Prevea Health main phone line at (920)496-4700 is currently working, however those calling may experience delays or connectivity issues.
