(WTAQ-WLUK) — Aerial traffic enforcement is scheduled to take place above five Wisconsin counties this week, including three located in Northeast Wisconsin.
Weather permitting, the Wisconsin State Patrol’s Air Support Unit will patrol in the following local areas:
- Sept. 19 on I-43 in Manitowoc County
- Sept. 20 on I-41 in Fond du Lac County
- Sept. 24 on WIS 57 in Door County
During an aerial traffic enforcement, pilots with the State Patrol’s Air Support Unit watch for traffic violations, such as speeding or aggressive driving.
When a pilot sees a violation, they communicate with State Patrol officers on the ground, who then initiate a traffic stop.
The State Patrol says its primary goal of aerial enforcement missions is voluntary compliance with traffic laws, not pulling over or citing drivers, which is why the missions are often announced publicly.
Wisconsin State Patrol will also be patrolling US 51 in Oneida County on Sept. 22 and I-43 in Walworth County on Sept. 23.
