ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Rail safety is being recognized nationally this week.
Starting Monday, September 18, through Sunday, September 24, government dignitaries, railroad agencies, law enforcement, and volunteers travel throughout the state of Wisconsin to educate the public.
Rail Safety Week is a collaborative effort among Operation Lifesaver, Inc., state Operation Lifesaver programs, and rail safety partners across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
Statistically, every three hours in the United States a person or vehicle is hit by a train.
For the last seven years, the effort has concentrated public attention on the need for rail safety education and works to save lives by educating and empowering the public to make safe decisions around tracks and trains.
