NEENAH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Volunteers are rolling up their sleeves for a Neenah neighborhood transformation.
The Greater Fox Cities Area Habitat for Humanity’s Rock the Block kicked off its three-day revitalization project on Doty Island Thursday.
Rock the Block provides free home repairs up to $10,000. Through volunteers and community donations, crews work with the homeowners to repair areas of concern, including roofing, siding, window and door replacement, porch repairs, painting and landscaping.
Homeowner Yolanda Brant applied to become a Rock the Block recipient after finding a water leak in her basement and not enough money saved up for the repairs.
The Rock the Block crew came in, fixed her leak and her porch that had been deteriorating.
She says without Rock the Block, the necessary repairs would have been delayed and may have caused even bigger issues.
“Now I’m so grateful, it’s lifted a burden off of me because it’s a beginning of not having to worry day by day, coming home wondering if someone is going to fall down the steps that went through my chair so it’s done a big uplifting to my life,” she said.
Now through Saturday, volunteers will complete 40 home and community projects on Doty Island.
