FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Frumentius Charles faces a misdemeanor mistreatment of animal count for allegedly punching and kicking a dog as discipline, according to a criminal complaint filed Wednesday.
Charles, 38, also faces seven other charges, including bail jumping and disorderly conduct.
Charles made an initial appearance Wednesday, where a $20,000 cash bond was set. He returns to court Oct. 13 for a preliminary hearing, court records show.
According to the criminal complaint, a witness called police after seeing Charles punching and kicking the dog, named Big Baby. At first, Charles’ wife denied there was an issue.
“The defendant’s wife advised that the defendant mentioned that Big Baby was not listening to the defendant so the defendant disciplined her. The defendant’s wife advised that Big Baby was not injured by the defendant,” the complaint states.
That changed the next day, however.
“The defendant’s wife admitted during contact with officers that Big Baby may have been hurt by the defendant and that Big Baby was also emotionally hurt by the defendant. The defendant’s wife did not allow officers to take Big Baby to a veterinarian to assess Big Baby’s injuries,” the complaint states.
No results of any such exam are cited in the complaint, however.
Charles also allegedly harassed witnesses in the case, the complaint alleges.
