OUTAGAMIE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) — Outagamie County is working with community members to update the County’s Hazard Mitigation Plan.
The Hazard Mitigation Plan is updated every five years with assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Hazard mitigation is taking action to reduce or eliminate risk to life or property from hazardous events; like tornadoes, fires, intense cold, etc.
In September of 2022, Outagamie County residents took a survey to help identify common issues. The draft plan was created to respond to those issues.
Outagamie County residents and business owners are asked to review the draft plan and provide their input.
“We worked with the National Weather Service to gain historical data, we worked with our municipalities to find out what they see as hazards,” said Emergency Management Director of Outagamie County, Paula Van De Leygraaf. “If residents see something we missed, that’s the find of thing we’re looking for them to respond to.”
The draft plan will be available for public comment for the next 30 days.
After any updates are made, it will then go to FEMA for approval. Then, the county board and local municipalities will adopt the plan.
