NEENAH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Changes are coming to a veterans monument at a Neenah park.
Officials say funding has been secured to replace the deteriorating veterans memorial monument at Shattuck Park with a new one.
The new monument will recognize all six branches of the military.
The demolition is scheduled to begin in April with the project to be completed in time for the first Future Neenah Farmers Market in June.
The project includes removal of the current memorial monument, as it has deteriorated beyond repair, and demolition and removal of the current brick paver area and three flag poles.
Restoration work includes the placement of nine new flag poles (United States, State of Wisconsin, Missing in Action, and the six service flags), a new foundation for the new memorial monument, and color concrete, including medallions representing the six service branches that are provided by Neenah Foundry.
A rededication and celebration of the Flag Memorial Project is scheduled for June 15, 2025 at 2 p.m. Additional details will be announced at a later date.
There is still time to participate financially, as the Veterans Association wishes to establish an endowment fund for continuous flag replacement. If you wish to donate, contact the Parks & Recreation Department at (920) 886-6060. All donors will be recognized on a donor board. Donations must be received by March 28, 2025 in order to be listed on the donor board.
