OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Problems still persist with the Winnebago County outdoor siren system.
On Tuesday night, one siren in the city of Oshkosh erroneously sounded off a tornado warning alert.
This comes after the county sirens falsely sent out an “Attack Mode” sound over the weekend.
Winnebago County Emergency Management officials said Monday, they fixed the “attack mode” glitch but are now trying to figure out what set off one of the sirens Tuesday night.
County officials say the two incidents are unrelated.
There was no emergency in either case.
Winnebago County owns and operates its 50 outdoor warning sirens. First installed in the 1950s, they were developed for Cold War air raid warnings, but in the 1970s, the sirens transitioned to outdoor warning alerts, specifically tornadoes.
