GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Misuse of the Green Bay Area Public School District’s logo in school board election materials prompted a clarification Tuesday from district officials.
A news release from GBAPS says the district’s administration was contacted by a community member, who reported school board candidates were distributing election materials including the district’s logo — inferring the district had endorsed candidates.
GBAPS said its legal counsel has contacted the candidates responsible for those materials and notified them the district logo may not be included in campaign materials.
“The District recognizes that this was an honest misunderstanding of the permissible use of the District’s trademarked logo and a lack of awareness of Board policy which prohibits the use of the logo or any other images that represent the school district for purposes of promoting candidates for public office,” the release states.
District officials say they issued a statement Tuesday to reassure the community the use of the GBAPS logo “was not authorized by the District and does not represent the District’s support for any candidate for school board.”
These materials were created without funds or support from the district, GBAPS says.
