(ST. NORBERT COMMUNICATIONS) GLENDALE – St. Norbert College earned its first win of the conference slate against Milwaukee School of Engineering, earning a split in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader at MSOE Raiders Stadium.
The Green Knights (6-12, 1-5 NACC) won the first game of the afternoon 9-6, breaking a 4-4 tie in the eighth inning and scoring four runs to get some insurance for a first conference win of the season. St. Norbert fell 7-3 in the second game of the afternoon.
Evan Calderon scored Devin Geary twice for St. Norbert’s first two runs of the game, getting one in the first inning on a groundout and on a RBI double in third inning to tie the game at 2-2. A Trevor Reinhardt single scored Calderon shortly after to make it 3-2 in favor of the Green Knights. Reinhardt scored one more run in the inning on a sacrifice fly.
The Raiders tied the game in the seventh before the Green Knights were able to take their biggest lead of the day in the eighth. The Green Knights scored four runs off four hits in the inning, starting off with an A.J. Kisting single to score Patrick Daniels (pictured). A Dawson Schmidt RBI single scored Kisting, while a Zach Bostrand single scored Reinhardt’s second run of the afternoon. Schmidt scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-4 in favor of St. Norbert. Despite a 2 RBI double from MSOE in the bottom of the frame, the Green Knights added one more run in the ninth to earn the road win.
Reinhardt went 4-for-4 with one RBI, while Daniels finished with three hits. Kisting and Geary each finished with two hits.
Luke Steebs earned his second win of the season, pitching six innings and allowing five hits and three runs with two strikeouts and three walks. Jace Midbon earned his first save of the season, pitching one inning with one strikeout and no hits allowed.
St. Norbert took the lead in the second game off a Matt Perry double to score Bostrand before three homeruns from MSOE made it 6-1 in the sixth. The Green Knights scored two runs in response in the eighth, with Reinhardt scoring off a Schmidt RBI double and the former scoring on a groundout from Perry to make it 6-3. A MSOE run off an error by St. Norbert gave the Raiders a 7-3 win for the split.
Schmit had the lone multi-hit game, going 2-for-5 with one RBI. Jason Schroder took the loss, pitching three innings and allowing five hits and three runs with two strikeouts and one walk.
